Democracy Now! on the toxic consequences of Harvey for industry front-line communities in Houston and Port Arthur, TX

Tuesday, September 5th’s Democracy Now! broadcast included a toxic tour of Houston neighborhoods bordering the dozens of petrochemical facilities along the Houston Ship Channel. The shutdown, flooding and start-up of those facilities increased the existing heavy burden of pollution on these communities, also affected by high water and fears of immigrant enforcement in the recovery process.

Last Thursday, DN! spoke with residents on the ground in Port Arthur, Texas, a city overwhelmed by floodwaters and surrounded by numerous industrial plants.
