Check out the new shows on Baton Rouge Community Radio

There are seven new shows airing on WHYR. Tune in Saturdays at 7:00pm for our new, locally produced world music show One World! Your World! followed at 8pm by a new local electronic music program Syntheclectico.

Then listen Sundays at 6am for Baroque and Beyond classical music, and later that day catch two new live local music shows. Gentle On Your Mind at 1:30pm will be oldies and rock and roll followed by Artist of the Week at 2:00pm, our first ever live performance show featuring an in-studio concert by a Louisiana singer-songwriter every week.

And we’re bringing two new syndicated spoken word shows to our weekday drive-time schedule. Keeping Democracy Alive is Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:00am. The program features interviews with important newsmakers and thinkers about the politics of our country and the world. Every Friday at 5:00pm brings you Sea Change Radio, a half-hour weekly show on the environment and the transition to sustainability. So enjoy checking out our new lineup and tell us what you think.

Hear Noel Jackson Music Satisfaction again, Tuesdays 9am-12pm, starting August 13th

Is hearing Noel Jackson Music Satisfaction once a week leaving you still unsatisfied? Well, now you can hear the best Southern Soul, R&B, even ‘The Lady from England’ Petulia Clark and Roy Orbison, all over again. We’re glad to announce starting Tuesday, August 13th, you can hear a rebroadcast of Music Satisfaction every Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock. And you can only here it right here on 96.9FM, WHYR-LP.

New shows and scheduling changes coming to WHYR this summer

Baton Rouge Community Radio brings you excellent local and syndicated shows seven days a week, music and talk and more from our own neighborhood and across the world. Through online streaming and syndicating our shows to dozens of community stations from Oregon to Vermont, 96.9FM’s programming reaches not just Baton Rouge, but all around the country. 

WHYR is proud to announce this summer we’re rolling out seven new shows to our weekly schedule, plus moving four existing shows to make them accessible to new listeners and give you two more chances to hear your favorite weekend music shows during the week. In all, eight hours of new listening every week on Community Radio.

Look for the first changes this Thursday, August 1st and rolling out through early September. You can see what’s on 96.9FM any time of day all week here, learn more about our programs, and listen to on-demand audio.

Our New Orleans music show Down the Road comes to you Sundays at 3:00pm. By popular demand, we’re going to re-broadcast the show on every Thursday from 10:00am-12:00pm starting this Thursday August 1st

Noel Jackson Music Satisfaction, WHYR’s Southern Soul and so much more Saturday afternoon blockbuster, will start rebroadcasting Tuesdays 9:00am-12:00pm on August 13th.

Currently Arab Voices, a news and interview show on the politics and culture of the Mideast and Arab-American community that comes to us from partner station KPFT in Houston, plays Thursdays at 8:00am. Arab Voices moves to 8:00am Fridays on August 2ndAlternative Radio, an award-winning interview show featuring figures like Noam Chomsky currently on Fridays at 8:00am, will move to Thursdays at 8:00am starting August 1st

Two of our unique music shows hosted by local Baton Rouge volunteers are moving to more convenient times for listeners to enjoy them. Terrestrial Radio Revival, a half-hour of Gospel and Christian music, is moving to 1:00pm Sundays on August 4th right after State of Belief, our weekly conversation on religion, government and politics from Monroe, Louisiana. Parallel Planet, an hour of classic cuts, jam bands and yes, once a month a focus on The Grateful Dead! – is moving to Thursdays at 6:00pm starting August 1st.

The Juke Joint and Deep Wax, hosted by Dan “The Professor” Mitchum, are retiring from WHYR after many years of bringing blues and classic rock to our station. We thank Mr. Mitchum for his contributions to the station and will miss having him on the air.

Three new syndicated shows are coming to WHYR. Listen for Sea Change Radio, a half-hour on the shift to social, environmental, and economic sustainability, on Fridays at 5:00pm starting September 6th. On Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:00am starting September 4thKeeping Democracy Alive will air with former New Hampshire State Senate Majority Leader Burt Cohen. The one hour, twice a week show features conversations about crucial national and global issues with insightful guests. And Sundays from 6:00-8:00am starting September 1stBaroque and Beyond Radio brings two hours of classical music to the Baton Rouge airwaves for your Sunday morning. 

Finally, we’re especially excited to announce four new local music shows joining Baton Rouge Community Radio! Syntheclectico, an hour of electronic music spanning decades and genres on Saturdays at 8:00pm, premieres August 31st. Just before that, listen for the premiere of One World! Your World!, and hour of world music you can hear every Saturday 7:00-8:00pm. On Sunday September 1st at 1:30pm tune in for the premiere of Gentle On Your Mind, a half-hour of throwbacks to classic rock and R&B from the 1950s to 70s. Right after that at 2:00pm hear the premiere of Artist of the Week, an hour of live music – live performances coming to you from our Mid-City Baton Rouge studios – with Louisiana singer-songwriters every Sunday 2:00-3:00pm.
